I got the echo pas 225 for $100 on clearance at Home Depot and straight shaft trimmer for $14 more. Love it as a trimmer, I mean it is not a beast or anything but it gets the job done. Do any of you know it would do with the straight shaft hedge trimmer for mostly moderate commercial use? Let's say 5-6 hours tops a day of use, not running all day but a good amount. The engine is 21.2 hp. Is this enough or is this pushing it? I have the stihl km130 as well but I like echo hedge trimmers a lot. Thanks in advance

The price you paid seems fair. Did you visit Echos web-site and do any research before you made this purchase?. Did you read the part about ideal for residential applications?. You are planning on using this product for commercial use?. I supposed you meant to type 21.2 cc instead of hp. You could not even lift a 21.2 hp engine. Also 21.2 cc is to small of an engine and I suspect you will over work shortly and need to replace. Be smart and purchase professional grade equipment and leave homeowner equipment for amateurs.

Haha my mistake about the cc's, too many budweisers last night when I typed that. My point was it will power the hedge trimmer, but how effectively? I think you are right it will fry that engine for anything other than residential use but wanted to see if anyone had a different take from experience. By the way, any sales on the easy lift harness right now?

Yes, actually best year for the product and company so far. Thanks for asking.

I hear you, I bought it as a backup trimmer now just looking to see if I can get a bit more functionality out of it. Maybe as a backup/ emergency hedge trimmer but I don't want to fry it

5 hours a day is a lot for a commercial machine. people on here will always say that you have to have commercial, crapsman wont work! its all relative to how the machine is treated and maintained. I've owned a poulan pro chainsaw for years. it was only $150, yet it outlasted my $400 Husqvarna chainsaw.

It was December and I was just walking around and saw 2 of these pas heads brand new marked down to $100. Some basic attachments were also clearance but I only grabbed the straight shaft trimmer and called it a day. Looking back I should have grabbed the other power head for that money. It has been a nice little trimmer, I wish the hedge trimmer was on sale but I don't think they carry them in store.

sometimes, it doesn't benefit to give input if you're not aware of what you are saying.

The echo PAS 225 has a 2 year commercial and 5 year residential warranty I have 3 echo 225's. All of them still run fine. They are 1, 2, and 3 years old. My echo PAS is the oldest and has seen much more use than any residential trimmer.

Bang for the buck, the srm 225 is one of the best values out there. I use mine everyday during the season for my customers lawns, have never had a problem.

So you got just the powerhead for $100 in a clearance rack? I would suspect those were refurbs then, as they do not put echo products on clearance, they send them back to echo or wait until next season to sell them. The powerhead itself is a great thing to have. I have an edger, trimmer, and brush cutter attachment for my pas 225.

i just realized how ridiculously old this thread is, but figure it was worth putting down some real tested info in case somebody comes along wondering.

I hope you don't actually talk like this to people in real life. I want to force choke you threw my phone, and I'm not even the one that asked the question.

The echo PAS-225 and SMR-225 are labeled as not being commercial grade for marketing reasons. They still have a 2 year commercial warranty as well as professional grade engines and parts. Echo doesn't want professionals buying their products at Home Depot. That's supposed to be for their residential market. However, Echo doesn't actually make true residential products like Stihl or Husky. Even their $150 curve shaft trimmers can be commercially used and have professional grade engines.

With that said, you would be much better off using the PAS-2620 head if you're going to be doing a ton of hedge trimming. I use the PAS-225 head with a Shindaiwa straight shaft hedge trimmer attachment, and it works just fine, but I only use it for any length on large hedge jobs where I need the reach every few weeks.

The way I see it is that if you burn up a $100 head after 1 season using the thing, you got your money out of it, and echo will replace it anyways. If it were me, I would get a PAS-2620 head, and use the PAS-225 as a back up, as any hedge trimmer is going to need repairs with that level of use.

Don't forget to pump some grease into that zerk fitting every so often as well if you're going putting those kind of hours on your hedge trimmer attachment.

i have been using this trimmer with the hedge trimmer attachment only off and on for a few years now and I love it! I can't explain why Home Depot was clearance get these units a few years back but they were brand new in box.

It's my first year and all I use is 2 Echo Pas-225's with the following attachments: Pole-Saw, Hedge Trimmer, Edger, and SpeedFeed Trimmer Head. I have 45 accounts and use them everywhere, all day. They have been good so far. They are only 5 months old. Just finished a huge tree trimming job with the pole saw attachment. I was cutting banches and limbs like 6" thick. These things have paid for themselves 5 times over already. I will start looking into other brands as I get more into the business. That's one of the more fun things of this job is trying out different equipment.

It is a commercial unit. That's why it's got a 2 warranty for commercial use.
