I have had very good luck using stens trueblue starter rope, but i buy it in bulk, not sure if most places have it available in pieces. That stuff seems to hold up relatively decently for me. There might be better rope out there though!
Good luck

My dealer buys in bulk and then cuts pieces to the appropriate size and sells them for a couple bucks.

Ever pull start a diesel engine? Start all engines that way and your rope should last a long time. Pull the rope until you feel compression. Let it recoil back in and then pull. This should help prolong your rope. Explaining this method to some older folks has let many of them keep their recoil start lawn mower when they were in the market for an electric start mower. I of course have no ideal how you start this but that sudden jerk when the engine hits compression is typically what shortens rope life. Many owner's manuals used to have those instructions under starting instructions.

That’s great, thanks👍🏼 It starts super easy. I was actually doing that because I had the two pieces tied together in the middle so I didn’t have a lot of run. I would have never thought to keep doing that after I fixed it properly. I bought a starter rope from the depot but it’s basically fishing line.

I've been doing it that way for a very long time..Not because some one taught me or I read it in a manual, but because I have had the rope violently ripped out of my hands when an engine is in need of a valve job. Wow dose that string 😵

Honda GXV390 cold start:
Pull choke out, ~40% throttle, gently pull rope like stated above, then give it a SHORT & BRISK 1/3 of the pull rope length pull...my two FW15s start on the first pull almost every time.

Warm start:
40% throttle and same pull technique as above.

I honestly wish every pull start engine I've ever owned had started as easily as these Hondas.

Mastrant Aramid Dyneema Antenna guy line rope
You have to know the thickness.
Crazy strong, ultra low stretch, lasts a very long time.

Quick guide:
2mm is good for handheld stuff.
3-4mm is good for 21" and such ~5hp things (although I've used 2mm on 6hp before).
3/16 is good for 8-20 hp stuff.
