I've been using WD40 or Walmart brand spray. I haven't noticed whether it stresses the shrubs. I also spray my hand shears.

what do you all think of using chain saw bar oil for the hedge trimmer?

 

Fluid Film even says on can safe for plant material.Cant beat it.Thumbs Up I bought the brush can applies on trimmers good.

 

Fluid Film here too, it does not hurt any plant material. And it has so many other uses also!

 

we have always used wd40, but may consider switching to fluid film. we have never had detrimental effects from the wd40, but then again i am sure it has everythig to do with the plant material being trimmed

 

I've always thought of WD40 more as a solvent, than a lubricant. For lubrication I've gone with Transmission Fluid, but Fluid Film is probably 'made' for this type of use.

 

I use Olive Oil to avoid plant burn (phytotoxicity)

 

Olive oil is a cool idea

 

I'd be concerned about olive oil going rancid. It could possibly cause corrosion as well. If you must use a food oil, nut oils are much more stable.
Food grade mineral oil isn't toxic, and is completely stable (and cheap as well).

I personally spray all of my garden cutting tools (and snowblower chute), with silicone spray. The fine silicone film prevents the sticky stuff from sticking.

i know you sent me a can for free dano, but it ended up going missing after not really using it enough to determine what it could do for us. it is hard to spend money on something via shipping nomind you when you can get something that works right down the street. they really should open the market up for this stuff, maybe drop the price ever so slightly and more than make it up in more volume. you get the idea, reaguardless i would like to have another can to try out, but i know i have to buy some. any way you could have the info on the closest reatailer to my area do you?

I can promise you nothing beats it on trimmmers Usually a good shot in the morning will get you all day.My trimmers blades run cooler with it and no burn on plants Thumbs Up I prefer the brush can.

I have been using for 36yrs the cheapest motoroil i can buy,when i was at a forestry firm we used the same oil instead of chain oil to lubricate the chain,never had a single problem,sometimes they put on the shelf what they want you to buy.
