More likely than not your have a pearless trans that's made for a garden tractor that weighs 400 lbs and made to handle a rider plus a 600 lbs roller going up hill. I think your good. In all seriousness try over inflating your rear tires before you junk them. You should be able to put 20 easy psi before they go pop. I would not try more than 30 though. You might get close to the right you want. Also is your deck rigid or does it hang off the chassis like most mowers?

I will definitely try over inflating the tires first. good idea to start with. plus, 2 new tires with install are going to be ~$75.

The deck is welded to the chassis so it's fixed and does not hang.

I have a support case in with Gravely, because their first response was basically nothing you can do. I don't like those kinds of answers so I complained. We'll see where that takes me.

 

I have this mower, but I'm confused what your trying to do? I have no problems with the factory recommendations for raising and lowering the wheels. Cuts great!

He wants to cut at 3.5 inches, from what he is saying it would top out around 2.5-3 inches which is low. I normally cut from 3.75 to 4 inches with my mowers.

The attached picture may help explain what the issue is. My issue is the cut is too low, and I cannot figure out how to raise the rear of the deck higher than 2.5" to be in line with the front of the deck which is at 3.5". Notice the front wheels are at the highest setting. Front deck to floor measures 3.5". However, the back of the mowing deck measures 2.5" to the floor. So, the unit is cutting at 2.5" - way too low. What is your Gravely's deck measurements?

Checked and tires are inflated to 28psi - the max rating.

Gravely support said there is an issue, didn't elaborate and said it needs to be brought to the dealer. I called the dealer and they suggested checking the tire pressure first. Hadn't done that till this morning.

No updates. I am still using the mower at the 2.5" deck height (it's max setting). The only way to raise the back of the deck is to buy new, larger rear tires which I haven't felt like spending the money on. We've had a very wet summer so far in St. Louis so cutting short hasn't burnt up the yard.

 

I was asking because I purchased one yesterday, didn't notice a problem with deck height and picked it up today. Haven't mowed with it yet but I did measure mine at the same spacer setting as yours. 3 1/2 front and 3 1/4 at rear of deck. Not sure what's up with yours.

 

Wow. That is interesting. Could you tell me what size tires you have on the back? Did you buy a brand new model? What HP is the engine?

 

Your measuring your cut height from the blades to the ground and not from the deck I hope?

I was measuring from the deck to the ground since the blades are only recessed by ~1/4"-3/8". (but good clarifying question.) Also, the blades are at the same angle as the deck. I checked blade to ground and at the rear it's under 3" like 2-3/4" - 2-7/8".

 

If you remove the blades, are there thick metal washers on the bolt that holds the blade on? These can be removed to raise the cut.

New mower with same size tires as yours. 14.5 hp. I actually took three spacers out today to mow. It will take some getting use to this machine but the cut was good.

 

RussellB: take a look at this photo of my mower. See where I have the tape measure on the back side of my mower deck and it measures ~2.5". Is this the same location where you measured your mower deck and it was 3-1/4"? I just cannot figure out why my deck is off by ~1". Looking at the assembly diagram everything is correct and everything functions normally. Look at the guard on the bottom behind the deck, it's just above my garage floor but doesn't touch which further says to me the height of the back has gotta be factory correct.

 

Jeep fix, you have an older machine than mine. Mine has a 1/2" rolled lip around the bottom edge of the deck. That said, measuring where you are on my deck is 2 1/2" however I only have 2 spacers on the front wheels which lowers the front 1 3/4" lower than your current deck position (as posted in your photos above). My mower is on the trailer and I will remove it tomorrow and place all the front spacers back in (raise the from to match yours) and remeasure.

 

Has anyone figured out how to fix this? I just purchased this mower and I am having the same issue. The deck is way to low for a summer cut. I was wondering if anyone bought newer wheels or just decided to do something different.
