How do you pick up Acorns?

Hi all,
Decided to post this here, as it is MY lawn I am talking about. The 2 oaks in the back are going through a Masting Year and producing thousands of acorns. I really don't want to rake them up, what would be an easy way to pick them up? I tried dropping my JD 717a deck down to 2 1/2" but it wouldn't move them. Thought about the push leaf collectors, but reviews said they didn't work on leaves very well and not on acorns at all. Another thought was my shop vacuum, but the acorns cover over 1000 sf, so that would also be a pain. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks
Burnie

This is a small area, but they are still dropping, sometimes it is raining acorns.

Hey Burnster,

Really no easy way to do it but you’ll want to cut it as low as possible first. Then, divide lawn into sections and use BP blower to round up into several piles. Drag a tarp/ rake from spot to spot

Just leave them to do what happens to them naturally .....I guarantee you ,once they're done falling ,a month from then you won't be able to find an acorn in that area If you don't do anything other than mow through there like you normally do. It's obviously an area underneath oak trees so it's doubtful you have much grass there anyway.

Well I have a guy supposed to come Saturday and put down some pavers where the spa was at and do some yard cleanup (including the acorns). He is the husband of one of my wife's coworkers, and is unemployed at the moment. Going to give him $10 an hour (more if he is fast and does a good job), that is IF he shows up.

Nice restaurant, intelligent conversation. Be polite and a gentleman.

I didn't know either, but if he is going to pay some one to rake and what not, it may be a good investment.

Lol @ nut wizard.

Some good ideas on here with the power broom and all

But if you have a lot of debris that’s just “odd” and needs to be picked up anyway
Getting them into a pile doesn’t help picking them up.

If you have a wood line to get rid of them in a large wheeled blower will kick them off the lawn in a hurry

Or you can use a lawn sweeper
You can tow it behind a ZTR

Toro makes the baaad azz turf sweeper it’s like a zambownie for lawns
I used to work for this guy Ernie Ross in Fairfield CT I’m sure he’s dead or retired by now and he had one ... they’re crazy expensive but nothing cleans a big lawn like one of those.

You can get a lawn sweeper at an ace hardware

Me?
I’d get them into a pile and suck them up with my leaf loader...
