I am wondering about how much I should charge to install 6 yards of topsoil in a back yard. We will have to wheelbarrow it about 40ft to the back yard. I was thinking around 100bucks a yard is that too high ? to low ?

I charge $50-$65 per TON...around here soil is per ton, mulch is per yard. However...a ton and a yard are nearly the same amount.

are you sure you need 6 yards of top soil and not 5 yards of fill dirt and 1 yard of top soil?!

Yes, if he wants a nice lawn that wont burn up in the summer. The more soil the better. Guess it all depends on how much the client wants to spend.

I think the original poster is most concerned with the labor cost. He knows what he's paying for the soil. The labor is the same whether you are moving good topsoil or lousy fill dirt.

If you have 2 guys there, that job is do-able in about 3-4hrs. For me it would be around a $500 job, once you figure in delivery, markup and labor.

So basically im close ... yall came in at 500 and I came in at 600 so I guess maybe I should come down 50-100 bucks or so and I wont be doing too bad.
6 Yards of Topsoil Materials and Labor = 500 bucks Right ?
Only issues is hes in 60 degree temps and you're in 100+ LOL I think you're at 6-8 hours of labor this time of the year at a normal working pace that your helper won't quit.

I would charge $65 a yard installed.
Is that in addition to the purchase and delivery of topsoil? I hope so.

We charge between $110 and $150 per yard of topsoil (quality mixed and screened topsoil)

Ive always been told that even though many people use ton and yard interchangeably, that is seldom the case.
Especially in this case for N.TEX (and larger jobs for that matter). If the customer wanted topsoil added to their yard, you measure and determine that 6 yards is needed but go and get 6 tons, according to my calculations you would end up 2 yards short.

1 yard of topsoil weighs about 3000 lbs.

My landscape designer uses yard/ton interchangeably for some things and it bugs the heck out of me.

That doesnt not include delivery or the price for the dirt.
