im going to look at one of these exactly like in pic and guy says its only 3 years old but i was thinking from internet search its more like around 13 years old ?

Good thread probably a good unit carbs were better back then and it was before the 4 mix stuff

 

They were good trimmers. I still see a new one for sale every now and then on CL or somewhere. Usually it is some dealer that is selling out and clearing his inventory and had a few still boxed up in the warehouse somewhere.

 

I'd like one of them myself.

 

 

ridin remember when i bought the 2 deere 85g's made 1984 brand new un used . well i sold one , which started in 5 pulls after havin gas in it 1st time since built . the thing sounded like a lawn mower at 83cc , you could tell it has huge power . well the one i kept i want to put a straight shaft on it and replace bicycles with a D handle , do you think i could find a straight shaft that would fit this ? posted pics above cuz i messed up post

 

Man, I have no idea if any other shaft would fit or not. That thing looks bada**. I recall seeing one like that at the D&G in Mason MI several years back. It was new, but just for display.

 

Yea I got two of them I prefere them over my fs 90r so much I sold the 90r they have all the power you need and I have never had any problems with them.

The Stihl FS85 and Shindaiwa 270 were perhaps the best commercial trimmers ever made. Not many still going in my area. The Shindaiwa 230, and 260 also are easily in the top 10 all timers--at least this is my opinion!!!

 

I have an 85 and it is a good unit. Can be hard to get parts. Mine is needing a carb. I rebuilt it last year it runs great just won't restart hot. That and mine has had years of trimming, brush cutting , and maybe a bit of abuse and neglect.
