I saw an ad in the Sunday's paper about Stihl now being sold at Home Depot and Lowes. Its about time. I dont know if they will offer a full line of their products, the pricing should be about the same or better. Now I can use my 10% off coupons in addition to the dealer special offers.
Take a digital picture of the news paper, you are pinching on a lot of raw nerves!!!!!

I find it hard to believe. What's next buying Scag at Costco.
Maybe Hustler is now for sale at Sam's Club.

Not sure what model but it was $7,900.00 never seen a Hustler before that the other day.

Around here ... John Deere started being sold at the local HD 2 years ago. IT put a local dealer that we used to frequent out of buzinezz.
Doubtful, unless all the dealer sold was the low end residential stuff... I'm pretty sure the dealer had bigger problems than Home Depot...

I just saw a Stihl ad on TV last week making fun of selling power tools in the big box stores.

Had some kid at a Stihl dealer getting told "Switch on, then prime, then choke, then pull..." He writes it on his hand and then runs back to the cavernous warehouse where the customer waits holding a generic weedeater. Announcer says something about asking REAL experts....

I highly doubt they would have a TV ad and then do this.

Yes, but if you had read the info more closely, you would have seen that Sam's club is NOT selling Hustler mowers. They are offering advertising space (I'm sure at a price) for a local Hustler dealer to market their line of mowers.

I believe it works similarly to the auto buying program Sam's has marketed for many years. Although Sam's may market Chevrolets, one doesn't actually purchase the Chevrolet from Sam's. One takes delivery of the vehicle (or mower) from a local dealer, while paying said local dealer. I'm sure PJ could enlighten you on the Sam's---Hustler connection.

As for Lowes or Home Depot selling Stihl, I'll believe it when I see it for myself.
Sithl is not selling their product at Lowe's or Home Depot and if they did it would be a slap in the face to the dealers who helped build their reputation. If you can't or won't service what you sell you have no business sellilng it period. No if's ands or butts about it.

As for the Huslter in Sam's, I can tell you as a former Hustler dealer that it's not Sam's selling Hustler. For a fee, a Hustler dealer can display one of their units at Sam's club with a bunch of literature, but the unit is not sold there under any circumstances whatsoever and is sold through the dealer exclusively.

Also, nearly every brand that is sold both through the box stores and the independent dealer is priced THE SAME at both the box and the dealer....yet people seem to want to assume that if it's at a dealer it will be priced higher without even researching it sometimes. Ie the Husqvarna product I sell, that model for model is never more expensive than at lowe's, but people have it stuck in their head that we will be higher. The box store's talk about being the only places to have 6 months same as cash financing with approved credit on purchases of $299 and more right now during some promotion they have. I have that year round. Sorry to ramble so long just frustrated because perception is as important as reality at times.
Yes in fact it was offered by a local dealer who was displaying it at the Sams club, albeit at a attractive price.

You got a digital camera? The only thing Lowe's sells with the name Stihl in it is a generic chain saw blade that says it fits Stihl bars. Considering the marketing screw up between both companies websites, I won't believe it till I see it.
and it dose not even fit in most of the bars

sonuvabi&$%! i keep forgetting to read the dates on these posts before i reply...

Why is the world's number one selling brand of chain saw not sold at Lowe's® or The Home Depot®?

We can give you 8,000 reasons, our legion of independent STIHL dealers nationwide. We count on them every day and so can you. To give you a product demonstration, straight talk and genuine advice about STIHL products. To offer fast and expert on-site service. And to stand behind every product they carry, always fully assembled. You see, we won't sell you a chain saw in a box, not even in a big one.

The Home Depot® and Lowe's® are registered trademarks of their respective companies.
you guys arent reading this right. this isnt an announcement saying stihl will be sold at homey depot and lowes, its an announce saying WHY THEY ARENT. the 8000 reasons they are talking about is their network of 8000 dealers.

Even John Deere doesn't sell the same products to home centers as it has in the dealerships. Low grade, different engines, not the same quality.

Can't buy the good stuff at a home center..........

John Deere sells the exact same mowers in their shops that HD does. They didn't at first, but they do now. I remember my dealer telling me they would never sell them because they weren't built to JD specs. Less than a month later, he had a fleet of them displayed in the front lawn of their dealership for sale.

The JD at Home Depot is actually a Scotts with green paint-don't be fooled. One day everything will be owned by one big company and sold at Home Depot and Wal-Mart.:hammerhead:
You need to flip that around. The Scotts riders that they used to sell at HD were actually built by JD. At least that sticker they used to put on them said so anyways. It said "Scotts by John Deere" or something to that effect.

I can't believe the miles you guys are getting out of an April fool's gag!
