A really good friend of mine who does all my work (really good work at that) on my lawn equipment is selling a Stihl BR-400 back back blower. I have used it once before and it runs really good and he wanted me to make an offer based on what others would pay for it. So how much would you guys pay for a used Stihl BR-400 Back Pack blower? Also, the cruise control that holds the throttle is broken to.

I just bought one from a guy and definetely paid too much @ $175. It's one of those things where I knew I needed one and didn't want to pay $500 out the door for the new one I really want. Couldn't justify that expense so I got the br400 used. Wish I just would've waited til it was justifiable to get the right one cause this one aint worth $175

I paid 10 bucks, it was a crack head on the street wanting a rock
Dont even talk to people who cant purchase your product or service.........
So you talk to crackheads on the street... so they must be able to buy your product. It's all coming together, I see how you are making the 175K/yr.

So i shouldn't pay over $175 for that one?

I'm not telling you what to do, just saying I wouldn't do it again.

The mechanic owned part is always good though.

The problem I see with buying a used 2 stroke is what did the guy before you run in it.(type of oil and gas) unless you check the compression and pull the plug to check for wear at a min. I would save the money for a new one. 2 strokes are easy to destroy if someone doesnt mix the gas right or forgets to add the oil.

Are u serious or joking?
nope it's true, a kid came up to me one day, saying he used to be in the business, he had some "left over equipment" I bought 2 line trimmers. echo. " I call him a kid- he was about 27 yrs old or so"
the blower, and power washer.
Poor guy, it looked like he hadn't eating in a month. I gave him a little extra. figured the equipment was hot, so I made him wright a recipt.
he swore it wasn't.

Being a mechanic owned it, chances are he knew what to use fuel/mix wise. I'd offer him $150 if it's in very good condition. Maybe less. Try to barter with him and offer to mow his lawn for a month or something for the blower. You might get lucky. :)
This is a great point. if he was the only one that used it and so on that sounds like a good buy. Best of luck with it.

I once bought a used stihl from a "2 stroke" mechanic before I knew anything about engines, long story short ran great cold, never test ran it more than about 60 seconds, ended up needing a piston and rings..That he bought for me so I was just out my time. Just my 2 cents. I will find a pic of the piston and post it, the wear is unbelievable.

Actaully he bought it used from somebody else. So I will technically be the third owner of it. And if i could afford to buy a new one i would, but i work at Enterprise washing cars and have no credit so I have to save up cash to buy EVERYTHING i own. And on top of all that i pay for college out of my own pocket while still tryin to start up a lawn care business.

I bought a used Stihl BR 400 from my local dealer over the winter for $150. It was a trade in by a homeowner. It was VERY clean, looked like it was hardly used. I used it on clean-ups the last few weeks and works great. Just not as much power as my 600.
