Val pak went out on tues till thursday of this week. Got two calls so far i was thinking my phone would be ringing off the hook by now. Anyone else use val pak and what where you results
?????????????????????????????????????

We had left over co op money to use last year It was a use or loose kind of deal. After I did a bunch of other advertising the dead line was fast aproaching so we used up the balance with val pack. Honestly for what it cost and what we got back was not worth it. In my expericance your best bet is to get into the direct mail magizine ( the full color one with restraunts etc... ) http://www.wnyadvertiser.com/book-cl/index.php Alot less money and you get decent results. But again it all depends on timeing, ad lay out, offer, etc... Another good point to remember is bigger is better. You need to stand out. This is why I only do 1/2 page ad's.

there's really NO infor here to make a desission on.

how many customers were you expecting to reach ?

How many of them OWN proptery ?

HOw many are in your service area ?

They never make it into my house. I sort mail while walking back from the mailbox all junkmail gets dropped into the outside trash can before walking in.

Back when I had more free time I would take all my junk mail and get out the parts that had my info on them out and then stuff it back into the return envelope and mail it back to them. I sure visa loved paying to get dicovercard junkmail and that the cabel company loved getting offers for direct TV after paying for the postage. i think I'm going back to doing this again.

LOL! I need to start doing this. This is awesome!

Our Valpak mailers went out about 2 weeks ago and we have already added over 40 customers. We paid 600 dollars for two zones (20,000 total people) and it has already paid for itself. 100% of our new customers also signed up for yearly maintenance.

I looked into it too....but I couldn't justify the cost.

Every time I get one of those in my box, I throw it out without opening it. The only time I opened one was when I was thinking of advertising with them and wanted to see who else was advertising.

This isn't exactly the most promising time of year to be advertising either, unless you were looking for commercial accounts, which Valpak is mostly residential anyhow... But if you were looking for homeowners they're probably not thinking about grass cutting with three feet of snow on the ground, that much I'm sure of.

What is sad, is that the person who sold you the advertising doesn't think of these things.
They should be familiar with what they are selling, they should know their product or service.
Yes, and it may sound far out but the salesperson ought to know that landscaping / yard work doesn't sell in winter...
Had they known and properly advised you they would have been able to better appreciate your business.

Let it be a lesson, an effective sales person knows a bad sale before it happens, and advises the customer on better ways of doing things.
Even if it costs them a hefty commission today.

Do you think potential customers will keep the coupon, if they don't need service yet?

This thread was from end of March 2012 so he didnt not send them out in January 2015.....I think March is appropriate timing

Okay, so I know that this thread is ancient. But I'm thinking about advertising with Valpak at least once. Granted, I'm not in the lawn mowing business. Mainly, we just do brush / junk / debris hauling, but right now more than ever we need to get more advertising out there. And I'll be dipped in spit if I'm going to sign up for one of those places like Home Advisor.

This dude from Home Advisor called me up a while back and was trying to get me to become a service provider. I was like, "Okay, so how much do you guys charge per lead?" It was, like, $20 or $30 JUST to talk to ONE potential customer. You pay that amount whether you get the job or not. And you continue to pay that amount every time someone contacts you for a bid. Which, to me, is horse manure. If their policy were different and they only charged you when you made a SALE, I MIGHT do it. But not just to talk to someone who has a 50/50 chance of not hiring us because it's going to cost too much.

Anyway, I'm going to try Valpak once, I think. When I do, I'll check back in and give my assessment. By the way, if anyone reading this has any other good suggestions for advertising, please feel free to chime in. We're on Craigslist now. And though CL gives a great return on investment, it's just not enough to bring steady work for us now that the slow season is here. :-(
