Grass looks great! What happened to the rest?
I had another kind of St. Augustine Raleigh I think, didn't do well. We live a block from the beach and most other types of St. Augustine didn't do well. As a result Bermuda grass took over and was choking it out. I sprayed for several months and dug it up. Then I found this grass where I work, we office out of a house out in Channelview / Houston area. We dropped rock out front on the grass to park our cars on. When I saw this St. Augustine pushing through the rocks over time, I was curious and starting researching and found there are several varieties of St. Augustine, I never knew. I believe this one is Floratam. I starting bringing it home in buckets, with in 6 months it has all filled the area I planted (1/4 of the yard) in my yard at home. I would like to get it tested to confirm its Floratam but haven't found anywhere yet. My concern is, I purchased new grass to fill in the rest of the yard. Sent them pictures of what I have and they thought it was Floratam so that's what I ordered from them. When the grass arrived it did not have purple runners. Are the purple runners something that happens over time cause the Floratam they sent me doesn't have them?

yeah looks like floratam.
I bought new grass and they said it was Floratam but it didn't have purple runners. Does the color of the runners change from green to purple over time? Could it be because the grass is new / young so the runners are green? I just hope its the same grass that I have. Thanks for the info.

it's hard to tell exactly since there are so many kinds and they all look very similar. floratam is very course in texture like "prickly" if you walk on it barefoot.

it doesn't matter so much if they are 2 different kinds as it will look similar enough not to notice once it all spreads out and grows together.

you can't ever really tell from pictures. you may notice a slight difference if you see it in reality but most people would never notice any difference.

if you watch the lawn care nut videos.....he has 3 different types and they all look the same on camera. floratam, palmetto, and pro vista.
