Has anyone done that ? It would be hard on your back I imagine, but it could be done. Just fold the mower handle down. I predict that there's some guys out there that have done it, but won't admit to it.

A guy around here ties his mower to the back and drags it. Others use a cargo carrier that is like a flat platform you can life the mower onto and strap it down. Even have one guy that straps a push mower to the roof of his car. It's pretty unprofessional but I guess it gets the job done. I'd think those would be easier and more efficient than the trunk.

There was a guy around here that put his in the back of a Honda Accord. There was another big company here called Affordable landscaping. The guy with the Accord was known as Accordable Landscaping.

The 1978 Delco-Remy Investigative Vehicle (Drive I). This one of a kind electric vehicle was built up in several weeks in response to a challenge General Manager Ed Czapor received from his supervisor in a meeting in Detroit. The Vice-President of the GM component divisions wondered why DR was not working harder on electric cars. In response the Drive I was built up on a Honda chassis that was purchased out of a local junk yard and equipped with electric motor drive and batteries. The body was constructed of wood made by the pattern makers in the Foundry. When the the VP of GM component divisions arrived several weeks later at the Anderson Airport (where this pho was taken) for a meeting he was greeted by Mr. Czapor and the Drive I. Mr. Czapor then took the VP for a ride up and down the taxi-way or runway, which was the only time it was driven in public. Word was received several weeks later from Detroit to scrap the Drive I.

Helping a friend move sone furniture last week. I notice the push mower in his garage. He tells me it cost him $800. He then went on to say he had it in the back of his SUV. Stopped at a red light. Mower rolled forward. He doesn't think much of it. Light turns green, he accelerates, and the mower rolls back and the handle busts out the back window. $300 mower, $500 window.

Yeah plus I don't know how Insurance would cover you if something went wrong, like mower flying out on the highway.

The guy that pulls his mower behind the car with a chain/ rope had it pop the curb. No damage to other cars luckily but it did mess up his machine.

Also think about it from the clients perspective.

2 estimates from different companies, same price. One guy has a truck and trailer, the other has a mower in the trunk of his Honda. Who would you choose? Doesn't even need to be a nice truck, it's just the fact you look like you know what you're doing.

I have a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis that I could fit my Toro 22" Stow mower into. I've used it for 14 months. Until last week when I bought my truck,. Happy to say I am in the process of upgrading everything. Bought a Stihl BR-700 blower on Friday. Looking for a good used zero turn now. If anyone has a good mower in West Florida, give me a shout! Doing this solo for the last year on the weekends has garnered me about $15,000. In the process of forming an LLC now. It's been quite an adventure!

I started last year with my battery mower in the back of my wife's car. Worked, but sucked.
I quickly put a hitch and cargo rack on it which was a bug improvement.
Then I built a custom rear rack into the bumper bar and half supported by the hitch. No need to lift other than a few lbs of effort on the handle once the front wheels were on the rack.

I've been looking at trucks for a while now. Too much equipment, want to bring two mowers and bc a helper, and look more professional. Still won't use a trailer. Too much maneuvering and time loss.

A trailer is a must in this biz unless you can fab a nice dovetail or something close on a pickup. Sad but true. I'd run no trailer, but I bag almost everything anymore, and constantly have mulch or stone to Be installed. I hope to find an in between, but I need a dump trailer it looks like.. food for thought

I can see myself getting a trailer, but only for big jobs, not for everyday mowing. I am purposely looking at buying an older pickup with a low bed height. And I will fab a sort of dovetail too. Also, don't plan on using a 200+ lb mower.
Long run down the line, would consider a real work truck (cab forward - NPR, W3500, etc). My market is just too urban. Trying to park on a street with cars and trash cans and driveways everywhere is a hassle even with just a car.
